CCM supports the efficient progress of the remedial works at Harworth Colliery
Situated near the town of Haworth in Bassetlaw, Harworth Colliery was a significant landmark, symbolising over 86 years of coal mining in the area. Derelict since 2006, the landscape required a substantial amount of work to ensure that it was suitable for future residential development.
VHE: Brownfield remediation and earthworks specialist
Brownfield remediation and earthworks specialist VHE was the chosen contractor to deliver this project, on behalf of Harworth Group. The team at VHE completed a site turnover across two parcels of land at the former coking works. The works were undertaken in two parts concordantly with different consulting engineers, each with their own strategy representing the client on each section. The project involved pre-classification of the soils to aid classification and reprocessing, site turnover to create a development platform for housing, targeted excavation to remove hotspots, on-site treatment and offsite removal of hydrocarbon contaminants within the soil.
CL:AIRE Definition of Waste Code of Practice
Use of the CL:AIRE Definition of Waste Code of Practice enabled the reuse of the majority of the material on site. VHE completed the validation reports for both sites, enabling regulatory sign off. Following on from the earthwork, VHE undertook infrastructure works on the development.
